Oshawa resident Jean-Marc Savoie is now a millionaire after winning one of the guaranteed $1 million prizes in Dec. 24’s Lotto 6/49 draw.

One Oshawa resident started off the new year as a millionaire.

Jean-Marc Savoie was the lucky winner of $1 million after winning one of the guaranteed prizes in the Dec. 24 Lotto 6/49 draw.

It wasn’t until after Christmas that Savoie realized that he had hit it big.

“I didn’t actually check the ticket until Boxing Day. I was definitely curious because we heard in the news that a winning ticket was sold in Oshawa. My girlfriend and I went to OLG.ca to check the numbers. We read them front to back and back to front a bunch of times. Then we looked up the prize amount – $1 million! We were shocked and needed to be absolutely certain so we headed to the store right away,” Savoie states in a news release

With his new-found fortune, Savoie says he plans to buy a property in his hometown of Bathurst, New Brunswick, as well as leave his job as a taxi driver, where he works during the non-summer months.

“But who knows, maybe I will drive on occasion just to meet up with old customers,” he adds.
