Not everyone pleased with Fittings plan
Re: “Fittings property set to start new life,” June 29, 2016
Dear Editor,
I am afraid that I find your article on this subject to be misleading. The subtitle for the piece states “Plans see support from local residents with a hint of worry” and your reporter states “the majority of residents also took their chance to offer their support for redeveloping the site”.
Having attended the meeting, I can state that all the residents who spoke expressed concern about the current proposal. In fact, the only people who supported the proposal for the site as it currently stands were people who do not live in the area. In fact, opposition to the proposed plan was so great that many of those speaking out against it received applause from the audience. I would also like to point out that none of the concerns raised by residents received concrete answers from the Medallion representatives who kept saying it was too early for that information or they did not have that information.
While residents of the area are not opposed to development of the site, they are vehemently opposed to the current high-density rental proposition currently under discussion, which is also hoping to include apartment complexes up to 20 stories in height.
