No new developments in 50-year-old case

Durham Regional Police were literally digging to see if there was any weight behind a tip received regarding the disappearance of a Bowmanville teen more than 50 years ago.
Forensic investigators performed an excavation on a site near Concession 8 and Highway 57 in north Clarington on Oct. 18.
However, later that afternoon, DRPS officials said nothing had been found during the excavation.
Two trenches were dug – one was about 150 feet long and the other was about 100 feet long. Each trench went down seven feet and metal detectors were used along the way, which could penetrate another three feet in depth. No evidence was located.
They were following up on a tip that the body of Noreen Greenley may have been left in a car that was buried in the area.
Greenley, 13, disappeared on the evening of Sept. 14, 1963.
After enjoying an evening of bowling with friends, Greenley was last seen running to catch a bus.
Police and a significant number of volunteers performed massive searches for the girl but she was never found.
In 2016, an individual came forward stating that a now-deceased relative had confessed to his involvement with the girl’s disappearance.
The man claimed he had left Greenley’s body in the car in the area that police were excavating.
The case was reopened in 2005, but no new information was brought forward at that time.
