Motorcyclist charged after Port Perry incident

An Oshawa man was seriously injured after a motorcycle collided with a vehicle in Port Perry.

According to police, a silver Honda was exiting a parking lot on the west side of Simcoe Street in Port Perry at approximately 3:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 10, and was heading south. After the lights turned green at Vanedward Drive, a motorcycle accelerated quickly from behind a truck, hitting the rear end of the Honda, which had accelerate eastbound across the road to avoid being hit.

The force of the collision threw the motorcyclist several metres. He was rushed to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, including several broken bones and a concussion. The driver of the sedan sustained minor injuries.

The road was closed for a short period of time as Scugog firefighters had to clean up gas that had leaked from the motorcycle as a result of the crash.

A 33-year-old Oshawa man has been charged with careless driving in connection with this incident.
