Marking World Polio Day

World Polio DayTo help recognize the Rotary Club’s efforts to eradicate polio, Oshawa mayor and fellow Rotary members John Henry was on hand at the Oshawa Golf Club on Monday to give proclamations to the Rotary Club of Oshawa and the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood to mark their efforts. In the past 30 years, Rotary clubs around the world have contributed $1.4 billion to polio research, as well as helping raise another $8 billion, leading to the disease being 99.9 per cent wiped out. On hand for the occasion were Emmy Iheme, the assistant governor of Rotary District 7070; Mike McLaren, the president of the Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood; Geoff Lloyd, the president of the Rotary Club of Oshawa; Tess Pierce, the vice-president of the Rotary Club of Oshawa; and John Henry, the mayor of Oshawa and a member of the Rotary Club of Oshawa.
