Man hits taxi driver over disputed fare

A Courtice man is facing charges after assaulting a taxi driver.

At approximately 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10, police received reports of a 60-year-old taxi driver being injured after being assaulted. According to police, a suspect got into a taxi in Oshawa and when arriving at the Courtice destination, disputed the fare. The argument between the suspect and the driver became physical, with the suspect punching the driver in the face. The suspect left the cab without paying and left his wallet in the taxi.

The suspect was arrested later at his residence. Police say the taxi driver was taken to hospital for his injuries.

A 25-year-old male of Devondale Street in Courtice has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and transportation fraud.
