Police are trying to figure out who has been putting up posters across Oshawa and Whitby that falsely accuse a man of being a sex offender.

Durham cops first received a report of harassment from a male victim in mid-March. Posters with the victim’s image, as well as the official logo for DRPS and CityNews, were put up at a business on Dundas Street East in Whitby and the Campus Ice Centre in Oshawa. The poster names the victim and falsely states he has been charged with possession of child pornography and child luring.

A letter containing a copy of the poster, as well as a threatening message, was delivered to the victim’s Oshawa workplace.

Police are asking anyone with information on this investigation to call Det. McCurbin at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 2764.
