Man arrested before he could rob store
Thanks to the quick actions of a witness and a responding officer, an armed male was arrested before he was able to rob a convenience store.
Police responded to the area of Simcoe Street South and Albany Road at approximately 5 p.m. on Monday, June 20 for an armed person call. According to police, a witness spotted two male suspects in a parking lot acting suspiciously. The witness called 911, telling police that one of the males put on a hoodie and gloves before tucking a handgun into his pants. A responding officer found the two suspects beside the store.
One of the male suspects attempted to run, but was tackled by the officer, who later discovered a replica handgun. The second suspect escaped on foot.
A subsequent investigation determined the two were about to commit an armed robbery at the convenience store.
A 31-year-old male of Centre Street South in Oshawa has been charged with attempted robbery, disguise with intent, possession of a weapon to commit an offence and possession of a weapon contrary to a court order.
