Incinerator meetings need to be looked at

Dear Editor,

These closed meetings need to be investigated. It doesn’t give us confidence in our representative if they need to hide information.

The two meetings that are being investigated are important. There needs to be transparency and accountability, as the council had to lower their standards. This was done to get the incinerator into operations.

The incinerator is $20 million over budget, with some of the tests done in Mississauga thrown out.

This was and is a disaster for Durham Region. But for our council to have closed door meetings when this affects us all is unethical. If everything is done properly, why hide things from the taxpayers? We pay them not to keep things from us, to keep us informed and work in our best interests.

I only have confidence in a few councillors – the rest work at their own agenda. As for the chair, I am too polite to put my thoughts of him on paper.

I appreciate your paper getting the news out to us.
