I’m glad Trump is running – here’s why!

Donald Trump has shaken up the United States out of a position of complacency. Just like in Canada, a lot of people don’t like the way certain things operate and say, “Well I guess that’s the way it is. Not much we can do about it!” One local example is the terrible lack of parking at the Oshawa GO station. “What can you do? That’s just the way it is! Guess we will have to go earlier to get a spot!” Complacency! After all, the wealthier among us can pay to reserve their spots!

For far too long, the U.S. and Canada have operated on a democratic system that favours the rich and influential running for office. An unwritten code seems to indicate that if you want to enter politics, say become Premier, you must enter a lower level of politics, perhaps becoming a school board trustee. Thus we have had poor trustees, mostly interested in moving up the chain. I can think of a few local examples that moved up the chain.

Another option would be to become a member of a political party at a young age, and volunteer for every position until they finally elect you to be a candidate in an election. Trump has done away with those paths to candidacy. Here is a successful businessman with no political experience, running for possibly the most influential political position in the world. Awesome!

It’s becoming so clear now that money does influence people. Had Trump not been a wealthy television personality, would he have been able to convince the GOP (Grand Old Party Republicans) to nominate him as the presidential nominee?

People are voting for Trump because they see him as an alternative to the “old boys club.” That club may soon be drastically revamped! You don’t think we have similar connections occurring in Durham Region or our Ministry of Education, etc.? Trump has and will continue to open people’s minds!

I’m a fan of Michael Moore, who has produced films like Columbine, alerting people to the terrible culture of gun ownership in the States. Sicko showing that corrupt medical insurance and pharmaceutical companies donate to governments to keep their profits rising. Recently he produced Where To Invade Next, opening the viewer to the wonderful things happening in other countries that the U.S.A. should adopt back home.

Michael Moore recently told an audience that he thinks the loudmouthed GOP nominee is going to win, “largely because American elites are so cut off from regular people that they don’t realize just how much the middle class has been harmed in recent years.”

“I know a lot of people in Michigan that are planning to vote for Trump, and they don’t necessarily agree with him,” the left-leaning documentarian said. “Many middle- to lower-income people are going to support the former reality TV star because at least he uses language directly pertinent to issues that have affected their lives.”

“Donald Trump came to the Detroit Economic Club and stood there in front of Ford Motor executives and said, ‘If you close these factories as you’re planning to do in Detroit and build them in Mexico, I’m going to put a 35 per cent tariff on those cars when you send them back and nobody’s going to buy them.’ It was an amazing thing to see. No politician, had ever said anything like that to these executives, and it was music to the ears of people in Michigan and Ohio!”

Think this might happen in Canada? Or with the ethanol plant beside Lakeview Park? Too many politicians are out of touch!

I’m so thankful that in Canada, we are not born into political parties, as many Americans seem to be. I’m also thankful that we have a three major parties, with the Green Party making inroads to becoming the fourth.

Now, no way I would vote for Trump – I would have worked for Bernie Sanders if I were an American. Too bad he didn’t start up his own party! Either way, Americans will lose this election!
