Four people facing 100+ charges over thefts

A two-month long police investigation has resulted in the arrests of four suspects in connection with a series of thefts from unlocked vehicles and garages.

On Nov. 3, DRPS’ Major Fraud Unit concluded the months long investigation, dubbed Project Walker, with the search of two homes – an apartment in Port Perry and a townhouse complex in Oshawa. As a result of the raids, police seized a number of stolen items.

According to police, the suspects would target unlocked vehicles and residential garages across the region, stealing small electronics and bankcards that had been left inside. Police say the suspects would use the tap feature on the bankcards – which do not require the use of a PIN code – to purchase prepaid gift cards and food items until the cards would be declined.

In total, the four suspects – a 22-year-old male of Grandview Street North in Oshawa, a 22-year-old male of Walnut Court in Oshawa, a 22-year-old male of Burdge Court in Whitby and a 22-year-old male of Old Scugog Road in Port Perry – are facing a combined 125 charges, including fraud under $5,000, break and enter, possession of stolen property, using a stolen credit card and possession of identity information. Police say they anticipate more charges will be filed.

Anyone with information on this investigation is asked to contact Det. Const. Robertson at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 5281.
