First singles title for Elgin

Pro wrestler Michael Elgin of Oshawa has just won New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Intercontinental Championship.
When Oshawa pro wrestler Michael Elgin told The Oshawa Express he wanted to win a singles title with New Japan Wrestling earlier this month, who knew it would come so soon.
Elgin walked out of the Dominion pay-per-view event in Osaka, Japan, on June 19 with the IWGP Intercontinental Championship. Elgin won the championship from fellow Canadian Kenny Omega in the promotion’s first ever ladder match.
Coming up later this summer, Elgin and 19 other wrestlers will be taking part in the G1 Climax tournament. Starting July 18 and running until Aug. 14, the tournament’s participants will compete against one another at various shows throughout Japan to see who the top performer is in the company. This will be Elgin’s second turn at the tournament, taking part in last year’s event, where he finished with four wins and five losses.
