Local History Spotlight - There can be unique challenges to tracing one’s family history if they have African heritage. The Oshawa Public Libraries will help those interested to explore some key resources and help them to get started on the discovery of their roots. The event is running from 6 to 7 p.m. at the McLaughlin Branch of the Oshawa Public Libraries, 65 Bagot St., and is free to attend.

Free Public Skate - Join Whitby and Brooklin Vision Care for a free skate from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The skate will take place at Delpark Homes Centre, 1661 Harmony Rd. N., on Community Rink Pad 2. Leisure skate admission policies will apply. It is mandatory for children five years and under to wear a CSA approved hockey helmet, it is also highly recommended for all other skaters.

Tea and Talk: Romance and Weddings - Oshawa’s Sweethearts and Scandals, delves into Oshawa’s earliest romantic relationships and marriages that took place at the Oshawa Museum, as well as some stories some felt were too scandalous to tell in the past. Learn about the convoluted Henry genealogy, Oshawa’s first love story and see some of the museum's wedding dress collection. Manage your Health - Learn how to manage different aspects of your health with this four-week interactive workshop, facilitated by the Central East Local Health Integration Network. The event is free and will be held at the Delpark Branch of the Oshawa Public Libraries, 1661 Harmony Rd. N., every Thursday this month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The first session will be on how to get the most out of your healthcare appointments.

Repair Café - Bring broken small appliances, electronics, jewellery, and more to the free Repair Café. With guidance from volunteers you can learn how to fix these items and keep them out of landfills. Those with a flair for repair should consider volunteering to be a member of the Repair Café team. Sunday FUNday - Handwriting is becoming something of a lost art, but the workers at the Oshawa Museum can teach you. Learn cursive handwriting just as a Victorian child would have, using pen and ink. Examine handwriting and drawing books real kids used in the 1900s. The lesson runs from noon to 4 p.m. at Guy House, 1450 Simcoe St. S., and is free to attend.

Classic Movie Night – At 7:30 p.m., residents are invited to view Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) starring Harrison Ford, Karen Allen, and Paul Freeman at the Regent Theatre, 50 King St. E. The movie is rated PG and is one hour and 55 minutes. Admission is $5 (cash at door), and all children and students get in free. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and high school, college and university students must show student ID.

Parkwood Hat Show - Come out to the Parkwood Sunroom tea and scones as they discuss artefacts from their historic hat collection. Through the afternoon program, 1:30 to 3 p.m., their curator will examine the history, the influences behind and what was happening in society with some of their mid-20th century hats.
