Durham police leads seizure of guns, cash and drugs

A month-long investigation led by the Durham Region Police Service Gun and Gang Unit has resulted in three arrests, the seizure of four handguns and more than $34,000 in cash and drugs.

On Aug. 17, the unit concluded a month-long investigation which focused on three individuals, believed to be armed, who were trafficking controlled substances throughout the GTA.

With the assistance of Toronto, York and Durham Tactical Units, three simultaneous search warrants were executed in the early-morning. Two search warrants were in Toronto and one was in York Region.

At a residence on Wingarden Court in Toronto, officers seized two handguns, more than 100 rounds of ammunition packaged for sale, 109 grams of cocaine and 54 grams of heroin. The estimated street value of the drugs is $24,400. Approximately $10,000 in Canadian currency and a 2015 Honda Accord were also seized.

At a residence on Stargell Crescent in Markham, officers seized a handgun and 972 rounds of ammunition.

At a residence on Bradstone Square in Toronto, officers seized a handgun and ammunition.

A 25-year-old-male of Wingarden Court in Toronto is facing 15 charges, including two counts of possession of a loaded, restricted or prohibited firearm; three counts of possession of a restricted/prohibited weapon knowing its possession is illegal; two counts of careless use/storage of firearm; and tampering with serial number of a firearm.

A 25-year-old-male of Stargell Crescent in Markham is facing seven charges, including possession of firearm other than restricted or prohibited firearm; possession of a loaded restricted/prohibited firearm; and careless use/storage of firearm.

A 21-year-old male of Bradstone Square in Toronto is facing eight charges, including possession of a loaded restricted or prohibited firearm; possession of a restricted/prohibited firearm no license or registration; and careless use/storage of firearm.

All three accused were taken to Durham Region for a bail hearing.

The Gun & Gang Unit thanked the Toronto and York Police Services as well as the DRPS Tactical Support Unit, K-9 and the Drug Enforcement Unit for their assistance in executing the warrants.
