Drop in unemployment

Those with children in regionally-run early learning centres are going to have to fork over a bit more cash this fall.

According to a report presented to the region’s health and social services committee, daily rates will see a price hike as of Sept. 1. The rate for full-day infants will rise to $51 per day from $50 and the rate for full-day toddlers will rise to $45.50 from $45.25. All other rates will also be increasing, with bumps ranging from anywhere between $0.25 and $1 per day.

The price increase will bring in an extra $9,000 to the region’s coffers during the last few months of 2016, according to the report.

The price hike, approved by the health and social services committee, still needs approval from the finance and administration committee before it is passed on for a final vote by regional council.
