Counting down to the big test
The countdown is on to the EQAO tests. That will be when all the studying and preparing comes to a head, and Grade 3 and 6 students put pencil to paper to show how good they really are when it comes to reading, writing and math.
But thankfully, the students at Mary Street Community School are well on their way to excelling at that test.
Thanks to its Lunch and Learn program, students at the school have been preparing for months for the tests, offering students weekly sessions to make sure they’re up to snuff. And to sweeten the deal, the school has been offering a lunch meal that no kid can resist: pizza! And this year, The Oshawa Express and several generous sponsors are providing the pizza.
Principal Kasia Janowski and her staff have been volunteering their time for weeks to ensure their students are prepared for the tests, and nothing motivates kids more than some free pizza.
And because the school doesn’t have to pay for the pizzas out of its own pocket like in years past, that money can go back into the school and help those children succeed.
