Cops nab would-be thief

Durham police have arrested a man they say was leaving the scene of an attempted robbery at a jewelry store.

At approximately 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, police were called to Studio Jewellers on King Street East after an alarm was set off. Officers that arrived at the scene found a male suspect leaving the rear of the building on a bicycle. He was wearing gloves and left behind a bag that contained tools.

When police noticed pry marks on the rear door, the male suspect was arrested.

Police say the man did not actually enter the store.

A 30-year-old male of Poplar Street in Oshawa has been charged with attempted break and enter, possession of break-in tools, failure to comply with an undertaking and failure to comply with a probation order.

Anyone with new information on this case is asked to call Det. Sitaram at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 2741.
