Conserve water using odd-even lawn care
Residents on Durham Region’s municipal water supply are asked to help conserve water by observing odd-even day lawn watering.
“We want to remind residents about the importance of water conservation,” says John Presta, director of environmental services. “We should all keep water efficiency in mind in our everyday activities.”
Under the Regional Water System bylaw, odd-even day lawn watering is mandatory from May through September. Odd-even day lawn watering means you should water only on odd calendar days if your home address is an odd number or, if your home address is even, then water only on even calendar days.
Residents can also conserve by only watering grass when necessary. A healthy lawn requires 2.5 centimetres (or one inch) of water per week, including rainfall.
