Commendations after civilians help stop assault
Two civilian members of Durham police are to thank for helping stop a male who was assaulting an employee outside a business.
Just before 8 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 26, two civilian members of the Durham police force were on a coffee break inside a restaurant on Bond Street in Oshawa when a male employee called out for them to call the police. According to police, a male was trashing an apartment on the upper level of the building.
Police were called, but before they arrived, the suspect made his way to the restaurant and began assaulting the employee. The two DRPS employees jumped in and were able to hold the suspect until the cops arrived.
The two civilian members were not hurt and will be given a commendation for their efforts.
A 21-year-old Oshawa male was charged with one count of assault and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order in connection with this incident.
