Clinic to keep your kids car safe

Fire services help educate parents about car seats

Oshawa Fire Services is offering its final car seat clinic of the season this Saturday for parents who want to see if their car seats are properly installed or need help with the installation. This service is being offered free.

Oshawa Fire Services would like to help motorists to protect their most valuable cargo.

The service is hosting its final free car seat safety clinic of the year on Oct. 27 at Fire Station 3, 50 Beatrice Street East in Oshawa.

It is estimated that three-quarters of child deaths and injuries due to motor vehicle collisions could be prevented with the proper installation and use of car seats.

Oshawa Fire Services has helped to properly install car seats in more than 60 vehicles so far this year, according to a media release.

Those interested in attending the clinic are asked to:

– have the car seat(s) installed in the vehicle at the time of arrival

– bring manuals for the car seats and vehicles

– bring any children who ride in the seats so they can be properly fitted

“The car seat clinics give our staff an opportunity to work with the community in ways not normally provided,” says Fire Chief Derrick Clark.

“If you are unavailable to attend during the event, anyone is welcome to come to a fire hall at any time to get help.”
