Cab driver escapes robbery attempt

Two Oshawa men are facing charges after a cab driver was able to escape from a potential robbery.

Shortly after midnight on Friday, Aug. 5, a group of four males and one female took a cab from downtown Oshawa to Birchcliffe Court in the south end of the city. When the taxi arrived, two of the males demanded cash from the driver.

According to police, the two males got out of the taxi, approached the window and assaulted the driver. The other passengers in the cab fled the scene.

The taxi driver, who suffered minor injuries, was able to escape in his vehicle without turning over any money. Two suspects were arrested after officers were called to the scene.

A 22-year-old male of Birchcliffe Court has been charged with robbery with intent, fraudulently obtaining transportation and mischief.

A 20-year-old male of Evangeline Drive has been charged with robbery with intent and fraudulently obtaining transportation.
