Body of Cameron Bailie found

The body pulled from Lake Ontario on Saturday evening has been confirmed as Cameron Baillie.

In a statement released Monday evening, the family of Baillie confirmed the identity of the body that was pulled from the lake around 7:30 p.m. on June 17. Baillie hadn’t been seen or heard from since going missing from his Oxford Street home on Jan. 10.

The full statement from the family reads:

“Our family is deeply saddened to announce that the body recovered from Lake Ontario on Saturday, June 17th, 2017 was Cameron Baillie. We would like to thank Officers Sean and Mike, of the Durham Region Police Service for all their hard work and effort. Thank you to all the volunteers that searched and brought awareness. Your time and efforts do not go unnoticed. At this time, we are asking for privacy, but will announce a future date and place for a public memorial.”

According to a release from the Durham Regional Police, “at this point in the investigation, foul play is not suspected. Toxicology screens have been ordered in an effort to confirm cause of death.”

Bailie’s disapperance sparked an outpouring of concern from the community, with a Cameron Bailie Search Group page on Facebook having over 5,000 members. Over the last six months, the group organized countless searches and posted signs around the city in an effort to help locate Bailie.

Following the sudden disapperance from his home, it wasn’t until mid-January that the DRPS located a pair of shoes near the Oshawa harbour believed to belong to Bailie.
