Arrests after gun spotted at Wal-Mart

Two people, including one Oshawa resident, are facing multiple charges after a man was seen with a gun at a Wal-Mart.

Police were called to the Laval Street Wal-Mart at approximately 11 a.m. on Friday, May 20 after someone called in to report seeing a male with a gun. According to police, a male was getting out of a cab when a gun fell to the ground. Police were told he picked up the gun before entering the store with a female and a child.

While officers and security staff observed the group shopping, a plan was made by Durham police’s tactical unit and K-9 unit to arrest the couple when they exited the store. The male and female were arrested without incident outside of the store. Police say a loaded gun was found in the female’s purse.

A 26-year-old female of Oshawa has been charged with possession of a restricted firearm with no licence, possession of a loaded restricted firearm, possession of a restricted firearm knowing possession is not authorized and possession of a firearm contrary to a court order.

A 23-year-old male of Toronto was hit with the same charges, as well as occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm and two counts of breaching probation.
