Arrest made after several cars broken into
An Oshawa man is facing several charges after several cars were broken into on a street near the airport.
Shortly before 7 a.m. on Friday, April 1, police were called to Deer Valley Drive for a suspicious person. According to police, a man had been spotted entering unlocked cars before riding away on a blue scooter. A responding officer located a man matching the suspect’s description on Griffith Street, just south of Deer Valley. The officer noted the suspect’s pockets on his pants and jacket appeared to be stuffed.
Following a short chase on foot, the suspect was arrested. According to police, the suspect was carrying a GPS unit, loose change and credit cards. Sgt Bill Calder tells The Oshawa Express that the suspect was also found to be in possession of a small amount of heroin and cocaine.
A 42-year-old male of no fixed address has been charged with three counts each of theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property and failure to comply with a probation order, as well as two counts of possession of a schedule one substance.
Police are reminding residents to not keep valuables in their vehicles and to keep car doors locked at all times. Anyone who observes suspicious behaviour on private property is asked to call 911 immediately.
