Arrest after police chase
An Oshawa man is facing several charges after a police chase south of Lindsay.
Shortly before 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 24, an Ontario Provincial Police officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 35 south of Lindsay for a driving offence, but the vehicle failed to stop, continuing north before heading east on Highway 7. The officer pursued the car, but later backed off for safety concerns.
A short while later, the same vehicle was seen heading west on Highway 7 from the Omemee area. Police deployed a tire deflation device on the road, resulting in part of Highway 7 being shut down.
According to police, the driver attempted to avoid the device, hitting a police vehicle in the process. Both the driver and the officer in the cruiser were taken to hospital for minor injuries and later released.
A 53-year-old Oshawa male has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight while pursued by a police officer, racing a motor vehicle and passing when the roadway is not clear.
