Amber Alert discussion continues
Dear Editor,
“A different opinion on Amber Alerts” (Letters, March 12th):
For your correspondent Marvin Sandomirsky to ask “What the hell is wrong with you?” and “are you mad?” says more about him than it does about me.
I never said that I phoned 911 to complain, I referred to the substantial number of people in Peel who did so in reaction to the alert, so stop making assumptions.
My concerns about civil disobedience are logically based on these vicious, uncalled-for assaults on the public.
What makes you think that I don’t care about the alerts and the reason for them? If it had been my child who had been abducted, I certainly would want the public to know. I thoroughly support the concept of Amber Alerts, but I have an intense, negative reaction to the way in which they are presently carried out.
It is completely unnecessary to intrude into our homes and mercilessly harass us in order to get our attention, and the sooner the police come up with a method that doesn’t guarantee public hostility and the risk of civil disobedience, the better.
Hopefully the police will see fit to find a non-aggressive way to achieve this, or I anticipate severe consequences in the future.
