A prominent member of one of Canada’s finest music families has come home, and will soon be coming to Oshawa.
Jimmy Rankin has moved from Nashville to his native province of Nova Scotia, and his latest album reflects the return back to the culture of the Maritimes.
Moving East is described as “pure East Coast, a homecoming album with true stories, tall tales, bittersweet ballads, and the classic folk-rock sound that Rankin helped pioneer.”
While performing with his siblings as The Rankin Family, Jimmy penned some of the group’s biggest hits including “North Country”, “You Feel The Same Way Too” and the Juno-winning single “Fare The Well Love.” The latter was voted the top East Coast song of all-time by CBC listeners across Canada.
His own hits include “Followed Her Around”, “Morning Bound Train”, and “Cool Car.”
He also wrote “Mull River Shuffle” a Cape Breton anthem that has appealed to all ages, jamming dance floors and mosh pits at parties, weddings and raves as the last big song of the night.
Rankin will perform at the Regent Theatre on Friday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m., the same day his new album will be released.
Tickets are $40 each and available at regenttheatre.ca.
