Get your mitts and toques on – it’s going to be a cold one on Feb. 20. But it’s all for a good cause.

The Refuge, which works with homeless people in Durham Region, is hoping to raise money during the Coldest Night of the Year, which sees teams or individuals walk a two-, five-, or 10-kilometre route. Money pledged during the initiative will go towards combating homelessness and hunger in Durham Region.

The Refuge, hosting one of 93 walks across the country, is hoping to raise $70,000 towards the effort. The event gets underway with registration at 4 p.m., and walkers hitting the route which starts at Oshawa Central Collegiate and snake throughout the city. There will be pit stops at The Refuge (2.5-km mark) and the Calvary Baptist Church (5-km mark) where walkers can grab a warm drink, hit the bathroom or just warm up their chilly bones.
