Oshawa man arrested in drug sting
An Oshawa man is among 19 people facing charges after an operation by Durham police and other forces across the province brought in millions of dollars in drugs, cash and vehicles.
Starting in November, Durham police’s Drug Enforcement Unit started an undercover operation – Operation Neebing – into street-level trafficking in the region, which uncovered a large network. Early on the morning of Thursday, June 9, police in Oshawa and various other locations conducted search warrants, finding more than $2 million worth of drugs, including more than 80 kilos of hashish, one kilo of methamphetamine, 1.6 kilos of MDMA and 1.9 kilos of benzylpiperazine (BZP) – a recreational drug that gives users effects similar to amphetamines.
Police also seized three handguns and more than $300,000 in cash.
A 25-year-old Oshawa male has been charged with seven counts of trafficking cocaine, eight counts of possession of the proceeds of crime, two counts of trafficking BZP, two counts of trafficking MDMA, three counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, three counts of possession of a weapon contrary to an order and one count each of possession of shatter for the purpose of trafficking, possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and possession of BZP for the purpose of trafficking.
Individuals from Uxbridge, Toronto, Shannonville, Cannington, Belleville, Brechin and Enniskillen have also been charged in connection with this operation.
