A “McHappy” day for Grandview Kids

McDonald’s served more than 100,000 customers

There is extra local emphasis on the “happy” in McHappy Day this year.

On May 8, McDonald’s restaurants across Ontario and Canada participated in the chain’s signature fundraising event.

Here in Durham Region, it marked one of the most successful years ever.

Serving more than 100,000 customers, McDonald’s raised $245,000 in support of Grandview Kids and its Believe Campaign, a fundraising effort to help build a new $50 million facility in Ajax.

This marked the first time all McDonald’s locations joined together to support a single cause.

The only children’s treatment centre in Durham Region, Grandview Kids provides outpatient treatment and rehabilitation services for children and youth with physical, communication and developmental needs.

“Since the early 90’s, McDonald’s has helped change the lives of many kids and their families [who use Grandview’s services],” said Brigitte Tschinkel, Grandview Children’s Foundation executive director of development. “The commitment from McDonald’s Durham Region, to help us build and support the new Grandview, will ensure no child is left behind so all kids across the region will live life at their fullest potential. The generosity and kindness from the community on McHappy Day will ensure many more dreams will come true.”
