Yard waste collection underway

Earlier this month, the city got its yard waste collection started.

Residents living in Area 1 should have seen the start of collection the week of April 11, and Area 2 saw its collection start on April 18.

Yard waste will be collected every other week on the same day as garbage.

Residents are reminded to use paper bags or clearly labeled open-top containers. Brush and twigs are to be secured no longer than 1.2 metres (four feet) in length and weigh no more than 20 kilos (44 pounds). Branches must not be more than 10 centimetres (four inches) in diameter.

The city is also reminding residents not to get rid of yard waste in natural areas, green spaces or parks. While yard waste will decompose over times, it will smother and kill native plants, spread invasive species and can lead to erosion.
