What’s My Line? returning for second year

Despite calling the first edition of “What’s My Line?” a success, host Justin Landry decided to move this year’s edition to December because of the difficulty promoting it during the summer last year. (Twitter photo)

Fans of improv comedy will want to check out the Regent Theatre on Dec. 2 as a star-studded show returns to Oshawa.
Local comedian Justin Landry will be joined by a large cast of friends and colleagues as he presents the second annual “What’s My Line?” show.
Last year, Landry told The Oshawa Express that he had been asked many times when he was going to host a show here.
So he took the plunge last September and said the first edition of “What’s My Line?” was a great success.
“We had a lot of fun doing it,” he recalls.
However, Landry realized promoting a show during the summer can be difficult as many people are busy or away on holidays.
Therefore, he decided to move the show to early December when people might have more free time.
“It’s a fun show, it’s improv-based and we have some music. It’s a perfect time for people to go out,” he says.
Along with Landry, the show will feature Jan Caruana (Mean Girls), Marty Adams (Saw IV), Ashley Botting (Odd Squad) and Kathryn Greenwood of the original U.S. version of Whose Line Is It Anyway?
Also appearing will be Paul Constable, also known as “Gary, The Canadian Tire Guy.”
This year’s special guest will be Robin Duke from SCTV and Saturday Night Live.
“She’s a huge addition to the cast,” Landry says of Duke.
In fact, Landry says all the cast members are alumni of Second City, the famed sketch and improvisational comedy group based in Toronto, Chicago, and Los Angeles, or as he calls them “all stars of the alumni.”
Also making a special appearance will be Ken Shaw of CTV. Landry light-heartedly explained it wasn’t until recently that he appreciated just how much “people love Ken Shaw” locally.
The show will also feature musical numbers and a performance by dancers from Theatre Dance Academy.
There will also be a silent auction with proceeds going to ALS Canada.
Landry says there has already been a number of excellent items donated for the auction, including a diamond necklace, a drone, a 4K big screen TV and a trip to Las Vegas.
Tickets are $39 and $45 and can be purchased at the Regent Theatre box office (50 King St. E.) or at regentheatre.ca.
Showtime is 2 p.m., and Landry notes this will give people plenty of time to still make the Oshawa Generals game later that afternoon, which will feature the popular Teddy Bear Toss.
“They can check out the show, grab a hot dog and have a nap in their car before the game,” Landry quipped.
