What’s in a name?

A new regional road set to next year is going to need a new name.

According to a report presented to the region’s planning and economic development committee, the new road, which will stretch between Consumer’s Drive at Thickson Road in Whitby to Thornton Road in Oshawa, will need a new moniker in order to avoid renumbering properties already there.

The report states the original proposal, simply naming the new section Consumer’s Drive as it is simply an extension of the current road, will not work as 13 properties between Brock Street and Thickson Road would need to be renumbered in order to accommodate the change – a change that could affect more than 130 businesses.

Regional staff are now set to meet with staff from Oshawa and Whitby in order to come to a solution, with a public meeting set for the fall should a consensus be reached.
