Toddlers found out in the cold

An Oshawa man is facing several charges after three children under the age of three were found outside on Sunday morning.

Durham police responded to a call of two young children, aged one and two, outside of a residence on Phillip Murray Avenue shortly after 10 a.m. on March 15. One of the children was out on the street, while the other was in the driveway. A third child, 3, was exiting the house at the time as well.

The children were barely dressed – one of which was only in a diaper – for the cold Sunday morning, which saw temperatures barely above freezing according to Environment Canada.

Police entered the residence and found it “to be in complete squalor,” according to a news release. There was little food and was found to be unfit for children to be living. A male was found asleep on the couch inside and arrested.

The children are now with the Children’s Aid Society.

A 23-year-old male has been charged with three counts of not providing the necessaries of life.

Anyone with information on this investigation is asked to call Det. Arnott at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 5334.
