It’s official, the first application for a legal weed store in Oshawa has been made.

According to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), the store is proposed at Suite 400, 575 Laval Drive in Oshawa, under the name Fabulous Leaf.

The application belongs to Tripsetter Inc., a company based in Thornhill.

there are no other details available regarding the application on the AGCO’s website.

The proposed location is in a plaza that includes Dairy Queen, Starbucks, and Subway. Wal-Mart, Dollarama and CIBC are also nearby.

In January, the first 25 licenses for retail pot stores in Ontario were awarded through a lottery. Tripsetter Inc. was awarded one of six licenses in the GTA area, which includes the regions of Durham, York, Peel and Halton.

Retail stores can legally open on April 1, 2019.

Oshawa council voted to allow cannabis stores within the city last month, but the municipality does not play an official role in determining where cannabis retail stores may be located.

Staff and council can provide feedback to the AGCO, and members of the public can provide comments and concerns on the application at the AGCO’s website until Feb. 26.
