Teachers, board come to tentative deal

The Durham Catholic District School Board has reached a tentative deal with the union representing its secondary school teachers.

The details of the deal with the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) Durham Secondary Unit are confidential, with members set to vote on ratifying the agreement at a meeting on May 11.

“I am very pleased that we have been able to achieve a collective agreement that reflects our shared commitment to providing quality Catholic education for our students and families,” Theresa Corless, the board’s chair, states in a news release.

“I am extremely grateful to OECTA Durham Secondary Unit and board staff for reaching a renewed collective agreement, which is fair and recognizes the service that our secondary teachers provide each day to our students in order to promote well-being and academic achievement,” adds Anne O’Brien, the board’s director of education, in the same news release.
