Surplus for transit

Following the first four months of 2016, Durham Region Transit is looking to be in the black for the year.

According to a report presented to the finance and administration committee, the transit authority is forecasted to have a $100,000 surplus for the year. However, that surplus is on shaky ground, based on renewed deals for contracted bus services in Whitby and north Durham, as well as volatile fuel costs and lower than expected ridership for the year.

The report also warns that potential losses stemming from the increase in fares will not be known until mid-year.
