Durham College honours academic feats of its athletes

In total, 27 Durham College athletes were honoured for their success both in their respective sports and in the classroom.

At its eighth annual academic luncheon, the Durham College athletic department honoured the accomplishments of 27 of its student-athletes.

The group, which is one shy of the record of 28 athletes honoured in 2014, were all recognized with Ontario Collegiate Athletic Association (OCAA) All-Academic Awards, which are given to students who succeed in both school and sports.

The Bert Dejeet Memorial Scholastic Award was presented to John Pham (men’s volleyball and pre-service firefighter) and Ashley Black (women’s softball and human resources) for having the top overall GPA for all student-athletes at Durham College.

Harrison Wood (men’s volleyball and electrical engineering), Lucia Kalmeyer (women’s volleyball and addictions and mental health) were all recognized with the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Academic Awards, given to those who are named to their respective provincial all-star teams in the CCAA while also achieving honour roll status.
