Studnicka impresses at junior showcase
Generals captain looking to earn spot on Team Canada’s entry into World Junior Championships
Oshawa Generals captain Jack Studnicka likely only helped his chances of making Team Canada in this December’s World Junior Championships.
Studnicka was one of 47 Canadian Hockey League players who participated in the 2018 World Junior Showcase in Vancouver and Kamloops earlier this month.
Canada was joined by Finland, Sweden and the U.S. in the eight-day event that featured 11 showcase games.
Studnicka was in the spotlight during Canada’s 6-5 victory over the U.S., earning Player of the Game honours with a goal and assist.
“Every time you put the Maple Leaf on you want to be on the winning side of things, and represent your country well,” Studnicka said post-game. “It was a physical game, both teams wanted to win, and it was fun to be part of.”
Team Canada’s final roster will be named after the national junior team selection camp in December.
Studnicka, who was drafted by the Boston Bruins last summer, has experience on the international scene.
He represented Canada Red at the World U17 Hockey Challenge during his rookie season with the Gens. He was named to Team Canada’s roster at the 2016 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Championship
