Students can win CLOCA sponsorship to Youth Summit
One high school student will be eligible to win a spot at the Ontario Nature’s ninth annual Youth Summit for Biodiversity and Environmental Leadership.
The sponsorship is being offered by Central Lake Ontario Conservation (CLOCA) through a contest held for students living within the CLOCA watershed jurisdiction. To apply, secondary students need to submit a 500-word letter explaining why they are the best candidate and what they intend to do with their knowledge gained from attending the Youth Summit.
The Ontario Nature Youth Council is welcoming 100 environmental leaders from high schools across the province to come together for a weekend of nature exploration, environmental learning and outdoor fun.
This year’s Youth Summit will be held from Sept. 20 to 22 at the YMCA Geneva Park in Orillia.
Highlights from the Youth Summit include interactive workshops ranging from medicinal plants, amphibian surveys, and freshwater life; a networking forum to connect and develop action plans with local youth; and hiking, canoeing and singing, and meeting people with shared interests and concerns.
More information on the Youth Summit is available online at www.ontarionature.org.
CLOCA’s sponsorship of $375 will cover all costs for the participant to attend, including accommodation, food and registration.
Those interested are asked to email the 500 word letter, with the subject line Youth Summit Application, in a PDF format by Aug. 16 at 4 p.m. to Cathy Grant, education instructor at cgrant@cloca.com.
