Skateboarder seriously hurt

A young skateboarder was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle while on her skateboard over the weekend.

Durham police responded to the area of Rossland Road East and Glenfern Street at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 for a collision. According to police, a 20-year-old Clarington woman on her skateboard had been struck by a GMC Jimmy. Witnesses at the scene told police that the woman, riding westbound on Rossland, swerved into the path of the vehicle.

The skateboarder suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision, and was taken to hospital. However, she was later airlifted to a Toronto-area hospital, where she remains in stable condition. The 40-year-old male driver of the GMC was uninjured.
