SIU investigating after man hurt in police chase

The province’s police watchdog has been called in to investigate the circumstances that led to one man being injured in a police chase with Durham officers.

On March 6, at approximately 11:50 p.m., Durham Regional Police officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle in the area of Simcoe Street and Bloor Street. The vehicle collided with a police cruiser and three male suspects fled the scene on foot.

All three suspects were arrested at the scene, while one suspect received injuries during the incident and was taken to hospital.

A 17-year-old and two 15-year-old males from Toronto face numerous charges including possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. They were all held for a bail hearing.

As is the protocol when civilians incur injuries during police encounters, the SIU was called in.
