Setting standard routes for city parades

Following recommendations in Oshawa’s Culture Counts plan, council has approved a set of four new standardized parade routes for events in the city.

The four routes include short, medium, long and memorial designation.

The short route begins by heading north on Queen Street, then east on King Street West before heading south on Centre Street to John Street. The medium route follows a similar pattern, but instead of turning on John Street, the parade continues to Gibb Street where it will head west to Park Road before dispersion near King Street West.

The long route moves the parade start to King Street West near the Oshawa Centre mall. The parade will begin heading east on King before looping around to Bond Street on Centre Street where it will then head back to finish around the mall.

The memorial route, to be used for Remembrance Day and other similar parades, begins at the armouries. From Metcalf Street, the parade heads north on Simcoe Street South to Richmond Street West where it will head east to Centre Street before turning south and moving back toward John Street.

The city report also states that exceptions will be made for special circumstances.
