South Oshawa’s newest restaurant has been open less than a month, but the brand behind it has been recognizable in the city for 37 years.

Quick Flame Restaurant and Bar is open for business at 199 Wentworth Street West, and

owner Sathi Veuppillai says it has been a rousing success so far.

“Since day one, we’ve been busy over here,” Veuppillai says, adding the reception has been very positive.

“It’s been very, very good. You can see it on Facebook and also the reviews, people appreciate having this type of restaurant over here.”

This was evident on Friday, Nov. 10 as the restaurant was packed during the official grand opening.

Most Oshawa residents will know Veuppillai as the owner of Mr. A’s Quick Flame Restaurant, which he took over in 2007.

“Everyone knows the Quick Flame name in Oshawa.”

The idea for a secondary location in Oshawa began about four years ago, with that vision coming together over the past 10 months.

“South Oshawa needed this kind of restaurant,” Veuppillai says, adding a large part of his customer base at Mr. A’s Quick Flame live in the city’s south end.

Veuppillai says the location was brought to his attention by a long-time customer.

“He said to me, ‘you have the right the place in Lakeview South Plaza’ and told me to come look at it.”

The proximity to the General Motors assembly plant was a big factor in his decision as well, as many employees from there, and other area businesses, patron the restaurant during the breakfast and lunch hours.

Customers at Quick Flame will notice many favourites from the original location, but also several new choices, such as pastas, chicken wings and ribs to name a few.

Veuppillai says their meals have finest, freshest ingredients, and customers can expect the same superior product and service they’ve come to expect at the new location.

“I’m always focused on quality and quantity,” he says.

He also strives to offer a family dining experience at his establishment, estimating that around 90 per cent of his customers are families.

Speaking of family, restaurant/bar entrepreneurship runs in Veuppillai’s, as relatives of his own The Portly Piper Sports Pub in Oshawa and Ajax, and Frosty John’s Pub and Restaurant in Bowmanville.

Quick Flame Restaurant and Bar is open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Friday and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
