Police crack down on tow-trucks

The Durham Regional Police recently partnered with OPP to conduct a tow-truck enforcement initiative and as a result, 30 tow-trucks were inspected.

On June 28, 2017, members of DRPS were joined by the OPP for a two-day long inspection and enforcement initiative focusing on tow-truck safety at the Iroquois Park Sports Arena in Whitby and the Miller Yard in Pickering.

The team inspected 30 tow-trucks and took 21 of those out of service for safety violations. Officers laid 59 charges for various infractions such as in-operative braking systems, load security and they removed two sets of license plates from tow-trucks.

Commercial Vehicle Safety Inspector DRPS Cst. Phil Steward says police want to ensure that tow-trucks who operate within the region are doing so in a safe manner and want to ensure that they comply with the legislation and laws governing them.
