Parents, talk to your kids

Dear Editor,

I really hate to write this letter because I thought that all of the feelings I had of inadequacy in high school and public school would leave automatically as soon as I left school! Well, they do not. I am 57 years old, and when I heard on the news that a young Muslim child was targeted by a so-called adult, I knew I had to write.

Like I said, I am 57 years old and I can still remember how I was bullied every single day. There was no evidence that this was happening to me and there was also no one willing to have my back.

An 11-year-old Muslim child who just wants an education should not have something like this be with them their whole life! Something has to be done! Education begins at home and there are an awful lot of parents who should never have kids, and I mean that with every fibre of my being! A person has to have a license to drive a car, but anybody can have a baby! I really do not know what the answer is, but I do know that this experience never goes away! You can do all of the educating you want, but adults are set in their ways, and most of them do not even want to change. They just do not want to get caught doing what is repulsive and distasteful to most adults!

This is not about me, but that 11-year-old Muslim child in Durham Region that may not even know why they are being singled out! Please everyone tell your children how to act appropriately!
