Overcoming obstacles to make your dreams come true

Dr. Wayne Dyer passed on a few weeks ago. He was an inspiration to me as he was an internationally renowned author and speaker in the field of self-development and, despite a childhood spent in orphanages and foster homes, he had overcome obstacles to make his dreams come true.

He was the author of 29 books, created many audio programs and videos, and had appeared on many television and radio shows. His New York Times best-sellers The Power of Intention, and Inspiration have all been featured as National Public Television specials.
If you need a pick-me-up, or you just want to read something that will lift your spirits, his book Inspiration is just what the doctor ordered. It’s hard to argue with the main concept that if you want to be successful at anything, a little spiritual intervention will help.

Here are 10 Wayne Dyer quotes that will inspire happiness:

  1. “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
  2. “How people treat you is their karma; how you react is your’s.”
  3. “When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself.”
  4. “Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it’s always your choice.”
  5. “Conflict cannot survive without your participation.”
  6. “You cannot be lonely if you like the person you’re alone with.”
  7. “The highest form of ignorance is when you reject something you don’t know anything about.”
  8. “When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It’s to enjoy each step along the way.”
  9. “Doing what you love is the cornerstone of having abundance in your life.”
  10. “Abundance is not something we acquire. It is something we tune into.”

I discovered Dyer while channel surfing several years ago and saw him on WNED, the public broadcasting station out of Buffalo. He was talking about a profound experience he had as he was finishing his book, Inspiration.

“I was recalling my friend Jack Boland, a minister in Detroit, who crossed over about a decade ago. Jack loved monarch butterflies, often telling stories of how he marvelled at these paper-thin creatures who migrated thousands of miles in high winds and returned to the same branch on the same tree where they first emerged from their cocoons.”

His friend admired these amazing creatures that had such mysterious intelligence built into their pinhead-sized brains!

Shortly after finishing the manuscript for his book, Wayne went for a walk along the beach in Hawaii when a monarch butterfly landed on his outstretched finger.

This little creature became my constant companion for the next two and a half hours. He seemed to be trying to communicate with me by moving his wings back and forth, and even opening and closing his tiny mouth as if attempting to speak…and as crazy as it may sound, I felt a deep affinity to this precious living being, I sat on the ground and simply stayed with my new fragile friend for 30 minutes or so.”

Eventually, he returned to his home to send off his manuscript. All the while, the butterfly remained on his finger. He called his new friend Jack. His friend and publisher insisted he get a picture holding the butterfly as they were looking for an idea for a possible book cover. Dwyer had someone take a picture, which later was digitally copied and made into his book cover.

Dyer makes me think about these things that I need to put this into action, how about you?

Practise being the kind of person you wish to attract.

You cannot always control what is going on outside, but you can always control what goes on inside.

You are not stuck where you are, unless you decide to be.

I’m at bdeefox@hotmail.com where I have decided to be if you have any Dyer quotes or stories.
