One dead following fatal collision with school bus in Oshawa

A 28-year-old Oshawa man is dead following a head on collision with a school bus on Simcoe Street North, near the entrance to Trillium Trails in Raglan.

On Friday, Sept. 22, at approximately 5:18 p.m., members of Central West Division were called to the scene of a reported head on collision. Witnesses state seeing a black Infinity driving aggressively southbound on Simcoe Street when it suddenly veered into the northbound lane striking a school bus head on. The bus had a school rugby team on board that were returning to Port Perry.

None of the 16 occupants in the school bus were seriously injured however, the driver of the black Infinity was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are looking to speak with the driver of a white cargo van that was southbound in front of the Infinity just previous to the collision.

Police believe alcohol and/or drugs may have been factors in the collision. Weather and road conditions were favourable at the time.

Members of the Durham Regional Police Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit, attended the collision scene to conduct an investigation. The roadway of Simcoe Street was closed between Coates Road and Raglan Road for several hours while evidence was collected.

Investigators would like to speak to anyone who may have information about or may have witnessed this incident.
