Oncologist named to top provincial post
One doctor at Lakeridge Health has found herself a new job as one of the province’s top doctors.
Dr. Leta Forbes, who is currently the chief and medical director of oncology, palliative care and medical genetics at the R.S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre at Lakeridge Health, will now also sit as the provincial head for systemic treatment by Cancer Care Ontario. In her new position, Forbes will oversee the quality, safety, access and funding for chemotherapy in Ontario.
“Dr. Forbes has been a major driving force behind the growth of our top ranked cancer centre. I can think of no one more suited to lead this important work,” states Tom McHugh, the executive vice-president and regional vice-president of cancer services at Lakeridge Health, in a news release. “We’re extremely pleased and proud to share Leta’s skills, knowledge and expertise with the rest of Ontario.”
Forbes will officially start in her new role as of Feb. 16.
“Dr. Leta Forbes brings invaluable expertise in cancer care, safety and patient experience to her new role as provincial head of systemic treatment,” states Dr. Robin McLeod, vice-president of clinical programs and quality initiatives for Cancer Care Ontario, in a news release. “I am pleased to welcome Dr. Forbes to our clinical leadership team. Her experience and commitment to high-quality patient care will play a vital role as we continue to improve systemic treatment in Ontario.”
