Officers save the lives of overdose victims in abandoned van

Four DRPS officers in Oshawa are being credited with saving the lives of two men found unconscious in an abandoned van.

On Jan. 25, just after 8 p.m., two officers from Central East Division were on routine patrol when they decided to check out reports of drug activity in the area of Albert Street and Phillips Street.

It was there that they located two unconscious men, both in their late 20s, inside an abandoned landscaping truck. The men were not dressed appropriately for the cold conditions and the windows in the truck had been smashed out.

On top of that, the doors were jammed and a small fire was smouldering under one of the men. Fire services and EMS were called to the scene.

Two additional officers also arrived and were able to remove one of the males from the vehicle to an awaiting ambulance. At that point, Naloxone was administered and the male was revived.

The jaws of life were required to remove the second male and, after about 20 minutes, he also responded positively to Naloxone. Both males were taken to hospital and are expected to survive.
